Who?

Hi there,

My name is Jo FitzGerald and I am on a mission to inform, discuss and explore all things Early Years. I have worked in the Education sector all my life in various guises (more of that elsewhere for anyone interested!), but my real overwhelming interest is in all things relating to children from 0 -6 years old. I love the science of development, the wonder of development, the joy of seeing children learn, explore and create – and having the privilege of being a part of a child’s world as they grow.

‘Tiny Sponges’ is my brainchild and I want to use any platform available to share what I know, what I find out that is relevant and informative. I attend many workshops, seminars and masterclasses from leading thinkers and doers in the childcare field, so that I am informed about current ideas, problems … and so that I can SHARE IT.

I want to be informative but … informative to who? Well, I’ve found these seminars etc. attract a lot of childcare professionals – but not all. I want to facilitate the sharing of information to any professional who might not have the time, money or ability to attend these events. I also see a disconnect between this really important information and those who could really benefit from it, but don’t have access to it or indeed knowledge of it– parents/grandparents and carers.

At the core of Tiny Sponges is LEARNING. I am a lifelong learner, I am curious about so very many things and my curiosity is ever-changing, I believe we should never stop learning – none of us. I want professionals (I am one) to carry on learning, I want parents (I’m one of these too) to never stop ‘finding out’, and grandparents (yes, one of those too!) to be empowered in embracing the new.

It’s not all about the theory for Tiny Sponges. It’s also about the HOW – the practical ways we can help children learn through play. I will be giving you some ideas about the How through social media. WHY? – because most people have access to social media these days. Whether your interest is Twitter/Facebook/Pinterest … I’ll try to reach you and make it easy for you to help the children you look after, you care for, you teach, you love …

What are you waiting for? Let’s go!
